Michiel de Kock is a paleomagnetist and Senior Lecturer at the University of Johannesburg. He is interested in global tectonics through Earth history and the formation and break-up of Supercontinents. Of particular interest are the interplays between global tectonics and the biosphere, atmosphere and hydrosphere and their relation to the origin of large mineral deposits. His current research is largely focused on (but is not limited to) using the high-quality information content of the Large Igneous Province (LIP) record to resolve the position of the Kaapvaal craton within pre-Pangean continents with implications for mineral deposit targeting.
