Eight boreholes and three tunnels: ICDP Project BASE probes the Moodies Group of the Barberton Greenstone Belt The DSI-NRF CIMERA co-sponsored the Geological Society of South Africa (GSSA) Alex du Toit 3rd lecture, hosted at the School of Geoscience at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) on 22 February 2024. Professor Christoph Heubeck’s talk was an inspiration to the department, and he showed us the depth and value of research the School of Geoscience has conducted on the Barberton Greenstone Belt in the past. It was touching to hear him honour the work of Prof Nic Beukes during his talk, and we are excited to see how new core resources will build this legacy and inspire new research.
