African Critical Minerals Summit 2023, Sandton Convention Centre

The Department of Minerals Resources and Energy (DMRE), in collaboration with DSI-NRF CIMERA and various industry stakeholders, organized and co-hosted the African Critical Minerals Summit. The summit aimed to explore the potential of Africa’s valuable mineral resources in improving societies, economies, and the environment. During the event, Professor Nikki Wagner (CIMERA Director) facilitated a discussion on geological mapping, engaging with critical representatives from South Africa, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Simultaneously, Professor Marlina Elburg (UJ Geology HoD) participated in a panel discussion, highlighting the role of research centers like DSI-NRF CIMERA and academic institutions in preparing geologists for the challenges of the Just Energy Transition.
