Investing in Mining Indaba: CTICC, Cape Town

DSTI-NRF CIMERA proudly participated in Mining Indaba 2026, contributing to important global conversations on innovation, sustainability, critical minerals, and the Just Energy Transition. Throughout the week, CIMERA engaged with industry, policy, and research stakeholders, reinforcing the value of research-informed perspectives in shaping a rapidly evolving mineral and energy landscape. Prof. Susan Webb (Co-Director) contributed to discussions on cross-industry technological innovation, while Busisiwe Maphalala (CoE manager) addressed the critical question of whether a circular economy can be both environmentally sustainable and socially just for producing countries.

Mining Indaba 2026 also provided a valuable platform for CIMERA delegates to gain exposure, build networks, and explore collaboration opportunities. Our delegates described the experience as career-defining, highlighting the opportunity to connect academic research with industry practice, engage with emerging themes such as AI and sustainability, and expand professional networks.

Mining Indaba 2026 reaffirmed the importance of creating spaces where research, industry, and policy intersect. CIMERA remains committed to advancing integrated mineral and energy resource analysis that supports responsible resource development, innovation, and inclusive growth.
