Professor Christopher Harris

I hold the Chair of Mineralogy and Geology at UCT, where I have been on the staff since 1984. I did my undergraduate and PhD degrees in Geology at the University of Oxford followed by a post-doc at the CRPG in Nancy, France. I also spent 3 years as a Professor at the Université Jean Monnet, St-Etienne, France from 2000-2003.

My research interests involve the application of stable isotopes to solve a wide range of geological problems including: the relative contribution of crust and mantle to intraplate igneous rocks; low-d18O magmas; groundwater recharge; urban isotope hydrology; the Central Volcanic Zone of the Andes; Bushveld layered igneous rocks and granites; Cape Granite Suite.
