ICDP Bushveld Drilling Project Sampling Party

12 – 18 August 2026

The ICDP Bushveld Drilling Project (BVDP) Sampling Party took place in Pretoria from 12-18 August 2026 at the Council for Geoscience’s Donkerhoek Core Yard.

Researchers and scientists from across South Africa gathered to examine the newly recovered BVDP drill core and begin scientific sampling activities. The core, drilled to a depth of 1,877.2 m, provides a unique opportunity to advance research on the Bushveld Complex, deep subsurface environments, and the geological processes recorded within the core.

The South African component of the project was coordinated and managed by DSTI-NRF CIMERA. Following the sampling campaign, the drill core will remain at the Council for Geoscience’s Donkerhoek Core Yard, where it will continue to support scientific research and collaboration.

This was another valuable opportunity to bring together the scientific community and advance research on one of the world’s most significant geological formations.

That has the same feel as the gallery pages on your website: short, informative, community-focused, and ending with the broader significance rather than listing every project detail.
